Botswana Mid-range Lodges Self-drive

Fly into Maun and transfer to spend the first two nights at Crocodile Camp on the outskirts of Maun. Accommodation is in a chalet on a bed and breakfast basis.

Today you will do a full day mokoro (dug-out canoe) guided trip into the Delta. Your guide will show you the fauna and flora of the delta area as you meander along the channels and waterways. The trip includes a packed lunch and you will leave your vehicle at the lodge, returning back in the late afternoon. Spend the night again at Crocodile Camp.

Pick up your vehicle in Maun and head to Khumaga in the western region of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, by the Boteti River. Boteti River Camp overlooks the river, and is a relaxing place to stay. There is a swimming pool here and accommodation is inclusive of dinner & breakfast.

Continue to Planet Baobab – a traditionally styled grass hut village shaded by giant baobab trees which are lit up at night. Spend the night here in traditional rondavel chalet, and on the next day you will take a guided overnight trip to Ntwetwe Pan.

Take a guided quad bike trip to Ntwetwe Pan –across the wilderness of the salt pans. Enjoy a drink before a barren sunset followed by a barbeque dinner. Camp out on the pan in bedrolls under the phenomenal Makgadikgadi night sky, your very own star-spangled ceiling. Return to Planet Baobab the following morning for breakfast.

Head north to Elephant Sands Lodge, attractively situated 50km north of Nata in a classic bushveld setting. There is a waterhole which attracts large numbers of elephant and other game, as the name implies.

Drive to Kasane where spend the next 2 nights. Accommodation is at The Old House in Kasane. In the afternoon you will do a 3 hour boat cruise on the Chobe River. This is a highlight of many a visitor’s trip to Botswana, and amazing sights such as elephant crossing the river to feed on the grassy islands are never forgotten. Birdlife is spectacular too along the river.

Today you will do a day trip to the Victoria Falls, leaving your vehicle at the lodge. The Zimbabwean side has approximately 2/3 of the fall’s frontage and the falls are easily viewed on foot. Victoria Falls has a lot to offer the visitor and is known as Africa’s adventure capital. From high adrenalin activities like white water rafting to more sedate pastimes like viewing the falls by helicopter, Victoria Falls has it all.

Leave Kasane and head to Thobolos Bush Lodge, 30km outside of Chobe National Park. The lodge overlooks the largest natural pan in the area, Barangwe Pan, which is home to large numbers of species such as elephant, buffalo, eland, kudu, sable, roan, impala, warthog and many other smaller species visiting on a constant basis.

Drive to Savuti in the Chobe National Park. Savuti is one of the most famous wildlife areas in Botswana, well known for its elephants, lions and hyenas, all of which visit the camp area, making for an experience not to be forgotten! Listening to the night sounds of Savuti is an unforgettable experience. Apart from being one of Africa’s prime game viewing areas, Savuti is also stunningly beautiful, with rocky outcrops, and rolling grassland interspersed with dead trees. Accommodation is at Camp Savuti, in an en-suite meru style tent, inclusive of meals and activities.

Continue to Khwai Guesthouse just outside Khwai village on the northern boundary of Moremi Game Reserve. Khwai Guesthouse is run by Bushways Safaris, and guiding is of the same standard as on their mobile safaris. Game drives in the concession as well as in Moremi itself are conducted. A night drive is an exciting opportunity to see some of the nocturnal wildlife such as porcupine and genet that would otherwise go unseen, as well as predators which are often active at night.

Drive back to Maun where you return the vehicle before spending the final night again at Crocodile Camp. Accommodation is on a bed and breakfast basis.
