Scenic South Africa Itinerary

Fly into Johannesburg and transfer to spend the first night at African Rock Hotel & Spa – an exclusive boutique hotel just 10km from the airport. Accommodation is on a dinner bed & breakfast basis and includes a complimentary 15min back, neck and shoulder massage.

Pick up your vehicle in Johannesburg then head south to spend the next two nights in the Drakensberg at Champagne Castle Hotel. The hotel is nestled below the second highest peak in South Africa, Champagne Castle (3377m), part of the main escarpment within the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg mountain range. Accommodation is on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.

Continue north from the Drakensberg spending the next night at Miss Chrissie’s Country House in the Chrissiesmeer ‘lake district’. Miss Chrissie’s Country House is a sympathetically restored sandstone building dating back to the 1870’s, with lots of charm and character.

Head north to spend the next two nights at Mount Sheba situated near the famous town of Pilgrim’s Rest in Mpumalanga. Mount Sheba is conveniently situated for easy access to a number of the areas attractions including Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and the rock formations at Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

You then travel to the Kruger area, to spend the next three nights at Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge. Situated in the Balule Nature Reserve, which is part of the Greater Kruger National Park, this is Africa at its very best! At Mohlabetsi, guests are assured of serenity and unobtrusive attentiveness, combined with an intimacy with nature. Accommodation is inclusive of meals and guided game viewing activities.

Spend the next two nights at Zebras Crossing Lodge. Nestled between the sloping hills of the Waterberg with mesmerizing streams and rock pools, Zebras Crossing is an ideal destination for hiking during a self-drive trip. Accommodation is on a full board basis with local drinks and 1x activity included per day.

Spend the final three nights at Elephants Crossing in Welgevonden Private Game Reserve. Elephants Crossing is a luxurious tented camp situated on top of a hill with spectacular views of the surrounding area. The luxury tents each have a private deck and splash pool as well as en-suite bathrooms with a bath and outdoor shower. The main lodge area boasts a large deck and fireplace  overlooking a private waterhole. Welgevonden offers you the opportunity to see the Big 5 with more than 50 species of mammals and over 300 bird species seen in the area. Accommodation is fully inclusive of all meals, local drinks and activities – typically morning and evening game drives conducted by experienced game rangers.
