Xobega Island Camp

Xobega Island Camp is a piece of paradise in the great water wonderland that is the Okavango Delta. Just off the mainland of Moremi Game Reserve, Xobega (or Gcobega) Island is ideally located and easily accessible for self-drivers coming from Mankwe Bush Lodge, and what it offers can’t be beaten. A bird-lover’s paradise, and an adventurer’s dream, Xobega has 10 light Mery-style canvas tents equipped with twin stretcher beds and en suite, open-air bathrooms. Everything about this camp is eco-friendly, from the solar-power, to bucket showers, and chemical toilets.Guests arrive at the tree-filled island via boat and are welcomed to this simple safari. Hippos rule the waters around the island, lions are heard across the water, and a Pel’s fishing owl takes up residence in the trees. It is important to note that Xobega Island is only accessible in a 4×4 vehicle and the driver should have some 4×4 experience. The Moremi Game Reserve roads can be challenging with varying amounts of thick sand, as well as deep pools of water during the rainy season. To enter Moremi Game Reserve en route to Xobega Island Camp, guests will have to pay a park fees of P120 per person per day and a vehicle fees of P50 per vehicle per day. Please also note that guests must present their reservation summary/voucher for Xobega to the officials on duty at the Moremi gate.

Rooms

Meru-style fly tent

Each tent has a spacious interior, fly screen and canvas sides, and a zip-doorway leading to the outdoor en suite bathroom. Canvas overhangs extend outward at the front entrance of each tent creating a shaded ‘verandah’ and place to sit and bird-watch.Inside each tent are twin beds, complete with bedding and linen. Floor rugs and scatter cushions add some vibrant colour and sense of luxury to these authentic safari tents. There is sufficient space in a tent for a third stretcher, however no children under 12 can be accommodated on the island.A single solar-powered light can be switched on and off at the wall, while lanterns can be used as bedside lights. Bucket showers are filled with hot water, daily, as are the standing washbasins. Chemical toilets are placed in each bathroom, in keeping with the eco-friendly operation of the camp.
